"New Ferry Butterfly Park recently hosted a study day
on meadow creation for members of the Chartered Institute of Ecology and Environmental Management (CIEEM). They spent the morning at the Butterfly Park and the afternoon at Ness Gardens, looking at different methods of creating and managing grasslands rich in wild flowers. This is a popular habitat to create, especially with the current interests in helping restore pollinator populations.
However it is not an easy habitat to create and sustain, and there have been many failures! It also takes time - we realised with some amazement that most of the Butterfly Park meadows have now been under conservation management for 20 years and are still changing!
Even the Ness Wilderness project is 5 years old and just starting to look really good.
The people attending were highly appreciative of the day."
