Wirral's Coast: Your Views Wanted

A survey has begun to explore residents’ and visitors’ views on the value of Wirral’s coast. The survey is being carried out as part of the work of the Celtic Seas Partnership project. It is being organised by the University of Liverpool and the North West Coastal Forum with the help of Wirral Council.

Aims of the survey:
• To develop a better understanding about what people value most about the Wirral coast;
• To identify peoples’ views on the environmental issues it faces;
• To raise public awareness of the Marine Strategy Framework Directive and its part in promoting a healthy future for our marine environment.

The findings from the survey will be available on the Celtic Seas Partnership website in late 2015 for use by all those with an interest in Wirral’s coast.

This survey takes approximately 10 minutes to complete.

To access the survey and take part go to:

Butterfly Park Anniversary Celebrations

On Sunday August 9th New Ferry Butterfly Park celebrated being open to the public for 20 years.

1995 was European Nature Conservation Year and Mel Roberts, the Park’s founder invited MEP Lyndon Harrison to officially open the nature reserve. We were very pleased to invite Lord Harrison back again to celebrate the developments at the Park and raise our newly acquired Green Flag.

The Park’s honorary secretary Paul Loughnane said: “We are absolutely delighted to receive a Green Flag Award for the second time from Keep Britain Tidy and also we were one of only 25 sites in the country to win a pollinator award, which shows our habitat management for butterflies has also benefited an increase in bee populations here”.

Lord Harrison was pleased to be back to see how much had been achieved and was especially pleased to see how many local volunteers were actively engaged in running the Park.
