This week is National Marine Week. From July 25th to August 9th, the North West Wildlife Trusts are holding events around the region's coastline, giving you the chance to explore the seashore, discover dunes and wallow with whelks.
This year’s theme is dolphins and the Trusts are calling on people to look out for them and record their sightings after a pod of more than 100 dolphins was spotted in the Irish Sea. Throughout the campaign you can share your sightings and photos on Twitter by tagging @LivingSeasNW
On August 9th two events will take place on the Wirral:
Seaside Fun Day
Thurstaston Beach
11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Join us for a day of seashore fun for all the family, including giant beach art, crafts with Shore Cottage Studio and the chance to meet Blue Planet's Charlie the clown fish. Plus, learn all about our amazing coastal wildlife.
Walk to Hilbre
9.45am prompt arrival for 10am start.
Take in the two miles across the sands to Hilbre Island where hundreds of seals are hauled out on to the sand banks of the River Dee Estuary and can be seen clearly with a telescope. Many more swim around to the end of the island where you may get a close look. The day will include a seaside scavenger hunt, rock pool dipping, bird and seal watching.
