The Woodland Trust are offering packs of free trees to any community, school or youth group who would like to plant them.

Apple Day 2013

The table of different apple varieties at last year's Apple Day

This Sunday, October 6th, we are holding our annual Apple Day at Eastham Country Park from 1.30 to 4pm.

We will be showcasing as many locally grown varieties of apples as we can - I currently have 26 different ones but more may be arriving. There will also be a chance to taste apple juice made in our traditional wooden press. You can pick up some apple recipes or colour in a paper apple to add to the wooden tree. As an added attraction the Mersey Morris Men will be dancing at 2 p.m. and 3.30 p.m.

Do join us and the Rangers to celebrate the great British apple.

Park Fields Becomes QE11 Jubilee Site

The wildflower meadow at Park Fields

Park Fields, Parkgate is one of 9 sites in Cheshire to be awarded QE11 Jubilee Status. This nationwide initiative, launched in 2011 to celebrate the Queen's Diamond Jubilee in 2012, was aimed at collecting 2012 fields, open spaces, recreation grounds and playing fields up and down the country in recognition of the Jubilee itself. 

The Friends of Park Fields persuaded Cheshire West and Chester Council to put forward the field for this accolade, which protects the open space from change of use or disposal by the Council in perpetuity, and which means that this 41 acre open space will remain available for  future generations to enjoy. In recognition of this achievement, the Friends intend to hold a modest celebratory event on the Cowfield on Saturday 14 September to which members of the public are cordially invited. The QE11 Commemorative Plaque will be presented at the ceremony, which starts at 1 p.m.
